Assistant/Associate Professor in Mechatronics- University of Agder, Norway
/The University of Agder invites applications for a full-time permanent position as Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Science. The position is located in Grimstad, Norway. The starting date is negotiable.
The Department of Engineering Sciences has more than 110 employees in scientific positions, and more than 1300 students at all levels. A variety of research is being conducted within all the groups Mechatronics, Renewable Energy and Civil Engineering, and we also welcome interdisciplinary projects within the department or with other research groups. This position will be associated with the Mechatronics Group. This group has 21 scientific employees, 22 PhD-candidates and five lab engineers. We have broad international cooperation, and we have close cooperation with industrial partners and public services in the region. This is a benefit both to teaching and research. The partners contribute with assignments, competence and resources.
We are offering programs at all levels, from bachelor’s to PhD, and our new colleague will contribute to our ordinary tasks within teaching and research. This includes teaching and supervision at all three levels. The research and development projects will be focused on requirements from our industrial partners.
Requirements
Applicants are preferably expected to have industrial experience with design of mechanical machinery or experience from cooperation with mechanical industry. This includes strong skills in applied mechanics (statics and dynamics) and mechanics of materials. The applicants are also expected to possess skills in several of the following areas: multibody dynamics, design against fatigue, fracture mechanics, strain gauge measurement, programming, modelling and simulation of mechatronic systems (hydraulics, mechanics and control), or finite element analysis. Applicants should also master simulation software like LabView, Matlab/Simulink or SimulationX, and production of drawings and models in 3D CAD.
It is expected that the successful applicant is or has been active in research and that she/he will contribute both to on-going research projects and by defining and establishing new ones. Also, we expect a good colleague who contributes to building the institution as such together with other colleagues.
The successful applicant must be able to work independently, have personal qualities like the ability to focus on service and flexible attitude towards internal and external project partners.
Applicants must document their competence in relevant educational theory and practice developed through education, teaching experience and supervision. Applicants who lack formal teacher training qualifications will be required to complete the University of Agder's Foundation Course in Education for University Lecturers within a period of two years.
Good teamwork skills and personal suitability will also be emphasised.
For the ranking of the applicants, emphasis will be given to the applicants’ competence and specialisation as described above and also suitability to the department’s needs.
The languages of instruction are Norwegian and English. The successful applicant must be proficient in oral and written English, and should also be proficient in Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language).
