Mechatronics Activities at the Dublin Institute of Technology - Now and into the Future
/The third webinar from the Mechatronics Education Innovation Series will take us on a visit to the Dublin Institute of Technology. Our host, Dr. Kent, a chair of M.Eng program at DIT, will describe the breadth of courses with mechatronic aspects at the DIT's School of Mechanical and Design Engineering, and discuss some of the past and present undergraduate projects.
Dr. Kent will also highlight research activities at DIT. The presentation will conclude with an outline of the future plans for developing the area of Mechatronics and will look for some feedback from within the group.
Register here for the webinar.
Dr. Kent is interested in your opinion on how to increase the awareness of 'mechatronics' in a larger community, and attract more students to this discipline. You can share your feedback before the webinar on the Discussion Forum.
Dr. Kent has been a lecturer at the Dublin Institute of Technology since 2009, teaching primarily electronics, instrumentation and control engineering for mechanical engineering undergraduates. In 2015-2016, he took a research secondment to Dublin City University, researching in the areas of environmental sensing and additive manufacturing. A highlight of his stay at DCU was taking part in the US-EPA Global Nutrient Challenge. His team was tasked with the development of an autonomous instrument to sample water for common pollutants and finished in a top six position.
Dr. Kent returned to DIT in January 2017 and took over as Program Chair of the Masters of Engineering program. He came runner-up in the Dublin region Inventor of the Year Award in May 2017 and was recently awarded a personal bursary to enable the development of an automated braille inspection unit for the pharmaceutical packaging industry.
